National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)
Brief History
With a view to contribute the service to Nation, Society and impart training to Youth in future, Dayanand Science College has started National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) in 1971. College has two units of NSS under the overall supervision of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. The present permitted strength is 150 volunteers per two units.
Goals
The educational goal of the NSS implies that besides gaining understanding of concepts like community, social structure, power conflict, etc. occurring in real life situations, students should acquire competence in the field of programme planning. Shouldering the responsibilities, participation in cooperative task and promotional work in the community.
The service goal of the NSS also calls educational approach in solving community problems. Its purpose is to help the community to recognize its needs and to assist in the mobilization of resources to meet these needs.

- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
- Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME THE MOTTO OF NSS “NOT ME BUT YOU”
The Motto or watchword of the National Service Scheme is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’ This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole.
